The Syrian Kurdish National Council responded to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who said his country was discussing with Turkey the need to represent the Kurds in the Geneva negotiations.
"Lavrov knows very well that the Kurds have been represented in the negotiations through the Kurdish National Council since Geneva 3, and we were involved in all the dialogues of Geneva 2-3-4. We represent the Kurdish people," said Fouad Aliko, a representative of the Kurdish National Council in Geneva. We have the weapons but we have the street and Russia knows this thing. "
"Lavrov knows that the Democratic Union Party (PYD) does not consider itself an opposition, and Saleh Muslim has said more than once that he does not stand with the opposition," Aliko said. He stressed that all the facts indicate that Saleh Muslim stands with the Syrian regime, how is he going to sit next to the opposition in the negotiations, but if he wants to sit with the delegation of the regime there is no objection.
He added, “Lavrov trying to impose on us organizations and figures close to the system is completely rejected."
The representative of the National Kurdish Council indicated that if the details were discussed in the Geneva talks, the opposition will put them on the table; however, Aliko did not seem optimistic that the current round will achieve any results. He said, " so far there is no ground to find political solutions and therefore I do not expect any progress. The regime deals from the perspective of the victor and the defeated and the regime asks us to surrender. "
The Kurdish National Council was founded on 26 October 2011 and includes a group of Syrian Kurdish parties
