Lebanese Army units deployed heavily in the northeast Lebanon town of Hermel and surrounding areas early Sunday morning in search of fugitives, arms and contraband, state media said.
In addition to the fixed checkpoints in the town, temporary barricades were set up in the streets of Hermel and the neighboring towns up to the northern border with Syria, the National News Agency said.
The inspections included car drivers and pedestrians, and were met with positive reactions from locals, it added.
Army vehicles also patrolled the nearby area of Al Qaa
