Trump: UNSC failed to respond to Assad chemical attacks

US President Donald Trump said on Monday (April 24) the United Nations Security ‎Council failed to act in response to a recent Assad chemical weapons attack, ‎which he called a "great disappointment."‎

Speaking to reporters ahead of a lunch with ambassadors from countries ‎on the UN council, Trump also said the Security Council must be prepared to ‎impose new sanctions on North Korea amid escalating tensions over its missile ‎and nuclear programs. ‎

‎"The status quo in North Korea is also unacceptable and the council must be ‎prepared to impose additional and stronger sanctions on North Korean nuclear ‎and ballistic missile programs," Trump said.‎

Trump authorized on (April 7) an operation in retaliation for an Assad chemical attack that ‎killed scores of Syrians. The action ordered by Trump was designed to punish Bashar Assad ‎and damage the Assad air force, which carried out the attack on the city of Khan Sheikhoun ‎in Idlib.‎

The US Navy destroyer launched more than 59 Tomahawk missiles on Assad Shayrat airbase ‎in Homs northern countryside.
