Abdul Basset al-Sarout, Syrian revolution Icon and vocal supporter, has been detained by former a Qaeda group in northern Idlib province, such a move sparks anger of the opposition activists who demanded his imminent release.
Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham, powerful alliance of Islamist factions and led formerly known as Nusra Front, has arrested al-Sarout since ten days ago over claims of links with the Islamic State.

Al-Sarout is thought to have survived at least three assassination attempts. He moved from being a famous goalkeeper to be a leader of the Syrian revolution in Homs.
