Mother of Al Sarout demands Tahrir al Sham her son release

Mother of Abdul Basset al-Sarout, a revolution Icon and vocal supporter, has demanded the former al Qaeda branch in Syria, to release her son after two months of arbitrary arrest in northern Idlib province, activists told Ammar Johmani.

Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham, powerful alliance of Islamist factions and led formerly known as Nusra Front, has arrested al-Sarout over claims of being an Islamic State affiliate in central city of Homs before the mass rebel evacuation to Idlib.

The mother of five martyrs said her son is not a ‘traitor’, urging all rebel factions to mediate with Tahrir al-Sham to get him back.

In May, displaced people of Homs in Idlib countryside along with tens of people went to streets demanding release of al-Sarout who with Ibrahim al-Qashoush nce led the demonstration against Bashar al-assad in homs and Hama, singing motivational songs and chants urging people for more fortitude and patience to overthrow al-Assad regime.

The arrest sparked anger of the opposition activists who demanded his imminent release.

Activists on social media launch campaign to press on Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham to release the former goalkeeper of the national team.

Al-Sarout is thought to have survived at least three assassination attempts. He moved from being a famous goalkeeper to be a leader of the Syrian revolution in Homs.

Syrian people kept in mind al-Sarout remarkable song when he kissed a murdered 19-year-old protester's bloody head whilst a crowd chanted to the beat of a drum "Sleep easy we will continue the struggle... mothers weep for Syria's youth
