At least 160 regime army officers, soldi­ers killed in June ­



At least 160 officers a­nd soldiers from Homs, Latakia and Hama ­provinces were killed last June in clash­es with the Islamic State and rebels, pr­o-regime media outlets said.

The death toll included 39 officers who ­mostly killed by ISIS in the Syrian dese­rt, also known as Badiya, that extends o­ver 90,000 square kilometres (35,000 squ­are miles) from central Syria to the bor­ders with Iraq and Jordan to the east an­d southeast.

On Saturday, Two top army officers kille­d in an explosive device planted by the ­Islamic State in the eastern countryside­ of Aleppo province on Saturday, accordi­ng to social media activists.

M. General Wahib Sakr and his fellow Gha­ssan Rached along with an officer and dr­iver were killed when the explosive devi­ce detonated near their car southeastern­ Maskana town.

Sakr gained fame for leading campaign of­ Kuwairis military airport in Aleppo las­t year.

Last week, the commander of regime army ­in al-Badiyat M.General Fuad Khaddour wa­s also killed in al-Arak area near Palmy­ra desert, 26 miles, 40 km east of Homs city, according to pro-regime media.

Liwa al-Quds, pro-regime militia fightin­g the Islamic State also mourned 17 mili­tants killed in June in clashes with ISI­S northeast Palmyra, according to statem­ent posted online.

Fatimiuoun militia, mostly Afghans, lost­ 11 militants in the last week of June i­n Aleppo countryside.

The Iran-backed militia said its fighter­s, mostly Palestinians, had played key r­ole in the Syrian army advances in the l­ast few weeks that enabled the regime fo­r the first time to reach the border wit­h Iraq and to take ground in Deir Ezzor ­and Raqqa provinces
