Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) is still holding tens of families from al-Shadadi and Merkada towns in the Qana refugee camp near al-Hasakah Dam amid harsh humanitarian conditions, activists say.
Aactivist Mohammed al-Khader said that Qana Camp administration subordinate to PYD still detains tens of displaced families from al-Hasakah and prevents them from entering the province after they fled regions controlled by ISIS due to heavy bombing by International Coalition on Markada and al-Shadadi.
Al-Khader told Zaman al-Wasl the camp administration requires the residents of al-Shadadi and Markada to obtain a special guarantee for the camps approved by the local council of the village or neighborhood of the sponsor and the so-called People's Assembly and the Asayish militia which oversees the "security" of the region.
The activist pointed out that the camp administration stopped all kinds of guarantees last week on the grounds that it is looking for a better mechanism for the process of exiting the displaced from the camp, which still lacks adequate services and facilities along with the lack of food and drinking water amidst high temperatures today.
A displaced person from the town of Sabikhan told Zaman al-Wasl that camp administration near Hasaka Dam stopped the work of the sponsors about two weeks ago for the people of Deir al-Zour. He said that he arrived at the camp with his family about a month ago and he does not want any aid but to leave the camp.
He added that the PYD militants and the camp administration are working on building a fence behind the embankment and ditch surrounding the camp, with the installation of guard points suggesting that the exit from here (the camp) will be more difficult in the future, which makes some displaced persons pay about 150 thousand pounds to security officials of the camp to help them escape.
(PYD) established on June 10 last year a camp near the southern Hasaka dam to receive the displaced from ISIS-controlled areas in Deir al-Zour and al-Hasakah. The function of the camp is similar to that al-Houl and al-Mabroka camps to prevent the displaced from reaching the province with the aim of residence or transit to Turkey and Damascus.
