Local sources in al-Yarmouk Camp south of Damascus reported that the Islamic State forces in the camp informed 50 families living in different parts of the camp that they must immediately evacuate their houses for security reasons. Islamic State forces cited the houses’ locations, at the front line with Syrian resistance factions in Yalda town, as the main reason for their order.
According to local sources, Islamic State forces informed families living close to the axis of al-Aruba street close to Yalda, those in the environs of Abu Hashish Square in al-Yarmouk camp, and the Martyrs Sectors facing the Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham controlled areas west of the camp.
In the recent period, the Islamic State forces have increased their security procedures inside the camp, and their fighters have searched and raided many houses close to the front lines. Islamic State fighters have also taken to searching people’s mobile phones for evidence they are communicating with Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham or other Syrian resistance factions.
Speaking to Eqtsad, local sources confirmed that the Islamic State’s search campaign aims at locating tunnels Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham or Syrian resistance factions have dug from the front lines to nearby houses.
One source indicated that the internal displacement of families living along the front lines would force these families to take up insurmountable financial burdens.
Although there are many empty houses in al-Yarmouk, these houses are unsuitable for living in and repairing the houses requires large sums of money that most of the camp residents cannot gather in light of the difficult financial circumstances they are living
