The security chaos, intensified impoverishment and the loss of the prestige of the state have contributed to the occurrence crimes and incidents in Latakia city.
Mohamed Saheli, media activist, documented information about several of the crimes by communicating with sources in the police and the Latakia courthouse.
-Armed Robbery-
A gang managed to rob the Ankabut money transfer company located on the March 8th street in central Latakia at noon on Wednesday. The gang stole around 18 million Syrian Pounds (S.P.) and then fled. The gang had dismantled the company control devices, and they took the computer that keeps the surveillance cameras records with them.
It is worth mentioning that Ankabut company is located opposite the al-Assad University Hospital which has a permanent security detachment positioned at its entrance. The area is also a security zone with three banks in the same area. Citizens noticed three security patrols in front of the Commercial Bank, the Real Estate Bank, and the Loans Bank which did not move as the robbery was ongoing.
-Rescue from Kidnapping-
Haider Younis managed to escape from an attempted kidnapping near the Samir Fayyad compound in the Project B area while returning to his house. In the police report, he said that the kidnappers wore military uniforms and they were traveling in a black Mercedes.
-The Drowning of a Girl-
At the Latakia Officers' Club, Sandy Nizar Mahmoud, 14, drowned while swimming on Wednesday night, although the club was full of visitors with a number of permanent life guards.
-A Man and Three Women-
The Latakia Chicago page reported from the al-Shatea al-Azrak on Wednesday that a man and three women were stopped. “The man claimed during the interrogation that he was Harun al-Rashid and the women were his concubines whom he had bought with his own money for his pleasure.” The news comes as an indication to attempts to defame the Abbasid Caliph who used to go to Haj one year and invade a land the following year.
-Murder and suicide-
Tariq and Khaldoon Bakdash, two brothers attending university, kidnapped the child Hakim Ala Eddin last Tuesday from the Martaqla neighborhood. They demanded a large ransom from the child’s family. The police discovered they were staying in a house in the pro-regime al-Thawra Street. The kidnappers were surrounded by the criminal investigation division which prompted Tarek to blow himself up with the child using a defensive bomb. Khaldoun threw himself out of the fourth floor window in an attempt to commit suicide, but he did not die and is still unconscious at the Latakia National Hospital.
-Kidnapping and assault-
Speaking to Ammar Johmani, Mohammad al-Saheli provided information about Monday's attack on an old man at the Abu Tammam Park, an anti-regime area in Latakia. Based on eye witness reports, the old man was attacked by 13 young men driving in cars without number plates. According to eye witnesses, the young men killed the old man because he prevented them from trying to kidnap a young woman walking in the place. The men attacked the old man, beating him which resulted in several broken bones. The youths fled without security forces intervening and local residents transferred the man to the state hospital.
-Hit and Run-
The Chicago Latakia page mentioned an incident where a Hummer car speeding on the al-Qardaha motorway tried to run over a family composed of several children and women. The incident resulted in the death of a child and the wounding of two children. The drive fled the scene.
It is known that owning Hummer cars is reserved for the al-Assad and his close associates in the province of Latakia.
In another context, Jableh criminal police arrested three women and four men during the raid on a brothel in the outskirts of Jableh city last Friday. Ahmed Akram Diyoub manages the brothel.
