New York, SANA- Head of the Syrian Arab Republic delegation to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 78), Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh discussed with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian ways to strengthen the strategic and distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, both sides stressed the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and to continue efforts to combat terrorism until its fully elimination.
They also underlined the importance of the meetings held in the Astana format to achieve further stability and security in the region.
Sabbagh also met senior policy adviser of Eritrea President, Yemane Ghebreab, and discussed means to strengthen relations between Syria and Eritrea, and stressed the importance of joint action to expose the catastrophic impacts of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries on a number of states, including Syria and Eritrea.
Sabbagh met the UN special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, and pointed out the continued Israeli attacks on Syrian sovereignty and the illegal American and Turkish military presence in northern Syria which constitutes a flagrant violations of the provisions of the United Nations Charter and the international law.
Pedersen pointed out the results of the meetings held in New York with a number of officials in the region and outside it, as part of the efforts he is making to implement the mandate entrusted to him.
