Geneva-SANA- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Haydar Ali Ahmad, stressed that the allegations of concern for human rights cannot be consistent with the continued blatant exploitation of noble causes to threaten the destinies of entire peoples, indicating that Syria has never recognized the so-called “Commission of Inquiry on Syria”, whose methodology and conclusions contradict the professional perspective, and are disconnected from reality in their interpretations.
Ali Ahmed said in a statement during the interactive dialogue with the “Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic” before the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva: What we heard under the title “Interactive Dialogue on the oral update of the Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic” does not deserve any comment, as there is no point in going into the details of the work of this commission, and there is no hope of it reviewing its methodology and conclusions, which can be described at the very least as contradicting the professional perspective, and detached from reality in its interpretations.
Ali Ahmed pointed out that achieving the true goal for which the Human Rights Council was established requires working on optimal investment in the available tools based on respect for international law, and not through absurd political show that is repeated with every meeting held with this committee.
The Syrian Representative stressed Syria’s continued efforts to liberate its territories from terrorism and restore security, stability and the rule of law, along with its continued constructive cooperation with the UN and other partners to improve the humanitarian situation of all its citizens and ensure the continued delivery of humanitarian aid to those civilians who deserve it, including in areas still under the control of terrorist organizations in the northwest of the country.
Ali Ahmed pointed out that contributing to creating the appropriate environment to encourage the voluntary return of refugees comes through cooperation with Syria and ending unilateral coercive measures. He reiterated that Syria is persistent in its efforts to strengthen, improve and develop the national legislative and institutional frameworks concerned with human rights in accordance with its international obligations under international human rights law.
The Syrian ambassador called for viewing these efforts objectively and impartially, and distancing the discussions related to them from the negative atmosphere, stressing that Syria will continue its cooperation with all countries that believe in international law and the UN Charter, to defend the true mandate of the Human Rights Council as a platform for dialogue and cooperation based on the principles of neutrality, objectivity and non-selectivity.
