Minsk, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister Bassam Sabbagh held bilateral talks on various aspects with his Belarusian counterpart Maksim Ryzhenkov in Minsk on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.

After the talks, the two foreign ministers gave statements to the press in which the Syrian foreign minister explained that they had had a fruitful and constructive exchange of views, and that various aspects of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

Sabbagh noted that they also discussed enhancing coordination on political issues, including mutual support in the international forums, as a memorandum of understanding on the political consultations between the two country’s foreign ministries was signed in this regard, in addition to discussing enhancing cooperation in the economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.

Sabbagh considered it necessary to deal with the development of political events in a strategic framework, given that the two countries face common challenges and attempts to impose Western hegemonic projects on them.

Sabbagh briefed Ryzhenkov on the repercussions of the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territories and the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinians and Lebanese, stressing Syria’s firm position on the necessity of stopping this aggression immediately and ending the ongoing Israeli occupation of the occupied Arab territories, including the occupied Syrian Golan.

He also reiterated Syria’s support for the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, and stressed the role of countries seeking to achieve security and peace in Eurasia through multilateral actions and constructive and fair initiatives.

Sabbagh said that our opinions coincide on the rejection of interference in the internal affairs of the two countries and denouncing the destructive practices of the collective West against them, including unilateral illegal coercive measures.
