127 Syrians Leave al-Hol Camp for Their Home Areas – July 30, 2025 (Autonomous Administration/Facebook)

The administration of al-Hol camp in eastern al-Hasakah governorate announced on Wednesday, July 30, that 36 Syrian families (127 individuals) have been released and returned to their areas of origin in Aleppo, Homs, and Raqqa.

The move is the result of joint coordination between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian transitional government, under the supervision of AANES’s Social Affairs Authority and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), according to statements published by the administration today.

This marks the second group of Syrians to leave al-Hol camp since the Autonomous Administration issued a decision on January 23 to return all Syrian residents of the camp to their places of origin, following the fall of the former regime.

Sheikhmous Ahmed, co-chair of the Refugees and IDPs Office in the Autonomous Administration, told North Press Agency that coordination was carried out with humanitarian organizations and associations, including the Syrian Studies Center, to supervise the transportation process.

He revealed that a new group is scheduled to depart in the coming days, with continued coordination underway with the transitional government to fully evacuate the camp.

Hussein Shallash, project coordinator with the Syria Stabilization Support Unit, told North Press that today’s convoy—the second heading toward northwestern Syria—included families with disabilities from Aleppo, Raqqa, and other areas.

The effort falls under an agreement between the Stabilization Support Unit and UNHCR, in coordination with the Syrian government and the Autonomous Administration. It includes the provision of initial aid and services to families, as well as support in recovering lost civil documentation.

In mid-June, the first group of returnees departed under the so-called “Convoy of Hope,” launched by the camp administration. That group included 178 individuals, mostly patients with chronic illnesses or humanitarian cases, according to the Autonomous Administration-affiliated Hawar News Agency.

According to a statement issued jointly by the camp administration and the Autonomous Administration, the June departure followed over three months of coordination with UNHCR offices in Damascus and Qamishli, as well as collaboration with local organizations.

Before departure, the participating parties signed a formal agreement outlining the terms and mechanisms for coordination. At the time, Jihan Hanan, co-chair of the al-Hol camp administration, stated that the camp’s leadership remains committed to working with all relevant actors to ensure the safe return of all Syrians to their home regions, “with full respect for their will and dignity.”
