On Saturday, August 2, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched rocket attacks targeting the Kiyariya and al-Saeed areas in eastern Aleppo countryside.

The rocket shelling injured four Syrian army soldiers and three civilians with varying degrees of injuries, according to the Media and Communication Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, as reported by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

According to SANA, Syrian army units are currently engaging the sources of fire that targeted civilian villages near the frontlines.

At 21:40, Syrian army forces reportedly repelled an infiltration attempt by SDF forces on one of its positions near the village of Kiyariya in the Manbij countryside, according to the Ministry of Defense.

An Enab Baladi correspondent in Deir ez-Zor reported that Turkish drones struck the rocket launchers from which the shelling originated, amid reports of casualties among SDF fighters.

The correspondent also confirmed that SDF military reinforcements—comprising 14 vehicles carrying personnel and equipment—departed from Division 17 toward al-Tabqah city, west of Raqqa, near Manbij, though the reasons behind the reinforcements remain unknown.

Additionally, reinforcements from the Syrian Ministry of Defense were deployed to the al- Khafseh front in eastern Aleppo countryside.

For its part, the SDF denied the claims made by the Media and Communication Directorate at the Ministry of Defense, stating that “undisciplined factions” operating under the Syrian government forces were responsible for ongoing provocations and repeated attacks on contact lines in the Deir Hafer area.

In a statement, the SDF media office said that on Saturday evening, artillery factions affiliated with the Syrian government shelled populated areas with more than ten shells without justification.

The SDF stated it “fully exercised its right to self-defense and to respond to the sources of fire.”

It called for respecting the de-escalation agreement and urged the relevant Syrian government bodies to take responsibility for restraining the undisciplined factions operating under its command.

On 31 July, activists circulated images of the Rasim al-Duwali bridge being destroyed in the Deir Hafer area. This bridge links SDF-held areas with Syrian government-held territory in the region.

Earlier, on 29 July, the SDF raised earthen berms around areas it controls near the town of al-Khafseh and in the direction of Deir Hafer in eastern Aleppo countryside.

Arrest of SDF Commander

On 31 July, Internal Security Forces in Deir ez-Zor Governorate arrested a group involved in a kidnapping operation in the province.

Investigations revealed that one of the detained individuals is a commander within the ranks of the SDF. Documents and IDs found in his possession confirmed his direct affiliation with the group, according to the Syrian Ministry of Interior.

Deir ez-Zor’s Internal Security Commander, Dirar al-Shamlan, stated that the relevant authorities are continuing the investigation with the detainees to uncover further details and take legal action against anyone proven to be involved, regardless of their affiliation.

Meanwhile, the SDF detained 11 Syrian army soldiers in the Deir Hafer area of eastern Aleppo countryside.

According to local sources on 24 July, the soldiers were detained in Deir Hafer, south of Manbij, after mistakenly entering an SDF checkpoint in the area. They were released the following morning.
