Previous explosion

On August 17, an explosion occurred near the “al-Wahda” bakery in Aleppo’s al-Maysar neighborhood, according to Enab Baladi’s correspondent at the time.

Eyewitnesses said the blast was heard across much of the neighborhood, causing panic among residents standing in line to buy bread, while columns of smoke were seen rising from the site.

According to the correspondent, no civilian casualties or injuries were reported.

Mutaz Sarmeni, a resident of al-Maysar, told Enab Baladi that “the explosion happened suddenly, and people ran into nearby alleys fearing another blast.”

The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted a source in Aleppo’s Internal Security Directorate as saying the explosion was caused by the detonation of an explosive belt worn by an individual, which killed him but caused no civilian casualties. The source added that security forces were working to identify the perpetrator.

On August 18, the Interior Ministry revealed further details, with spokesman Nour al-Din al-Baba telling state TV al-Ikhbariya that investigations showed the perpetrator—an ex-convict and drug user—had blown himself up with a grenade during a dispute with his ex-wife’s family, rather than with an explosive belt.
