The Autonomous Administration announced preliminary results of the meetings held on Tuesday between a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) delegation and representatives of the Syrian government in Damascus, which covered constitutional, security, and humanitarian issues aimed at enhancing stability and building peace in Syria.
According to a post on North and East Syria Communications on X on Tuesday evening, October 7, both sides discussed amending the country’s constitution, describing it as “a crucial step, as the constitution of any country must represent all its inhabitants and protect every individual.”
They also discussed the principle of integrating the SDF and the Internal Security Forces into a unified national framework, which the delegation described as a step toward forming “an organized and effective army serving the protection of all Syrians.”
The delegation further called for a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire in northeastern Syria and Aleppo, stressing that “all Syrians should be able to live in a safe country.”
The statement added that the talks also addressed the return of displaced people and ways to combat terrorism, describing these as “key issues for ensuring lasting stability and peace in Syria.”
No official agreement was signed between the two sides, according to the delegation’s account on X.
The delegation expressed gratitude to the French Foreign Ministry, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), and the U.S. Embassy in Turkey for their support and efforts in facilitating the dialogue, emphasizing that these parties “played an active role in bringing viewpoints closer among all sides.”
These meetings come amid growing discussions about new political arrangements in Syria and efforts to bridge the gap between the government and the Autonomous Administration, two days after field tensions between the two sides in Aleppo.
A meeting between al-Sharaa and Abdi
Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa and the Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, held a meeting in Damascus on Tuesday, October 7.
The meeting—confirmed by Agence France-Presse (AFP) on its X account, citing a government source—is the second of its kind since last March.
AFP quoted two sources as saying that the U.S. envoy to Syria, Tom Perriello, and the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander, Brad Cooper, also attended the meeting.
According to the pro-Autonomous Administration Hawar News Agency (ANHA), the Autonomous Administration’s delegation included Mazloum Abdi, and SDF officials Ilham Ahmed and Rojhat Afrin.
Syrian Defense Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra stated in a post on X that he met with Mazloum Abdi in Damascus, adding that “a comprehensive ceasefire was agreed upon across all fronts and military deployment points in northern and northeastern Syria, with the implementation to begin immediately.”
This comes after clashes between the SDF and the Syrian army in Aleppo’s Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods.
Fighting has completely ceased in Aleppo between the Syrian army and the SDF, which controls both neighborhoods, following a ceasefire agreement reached on Tuesday, according to Syria’s state-run al-Ikhbariyah channel.
On October 4, Syria’s foreign minister refused to meet an SDF delegation, stating that “no appointment had been set in the first place,” and that the delegation’s arrival occurred without prior coordination with the relevant authorities, according to a government source who spoke to Enab Baladi at the time.
