Several Syrian areas witnessed separate incidents during the days that coincided with the Eid al-Adha holiday, including shootings and clashes that left people dead and wounded in more than one governorate.
In Hama countryside (western Syria), two civilians were killed and four others wounded in a shooting that targeted people riding a motorcycle in the village of al-Qahira in the al-Ghab area, according to Enab Baladi’s correspondent.
The correspondent added that the attack took place at around 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, noting that the village had witnessed a similar incident months earlier, when one person was killed in a shooting while traveling on a motorcycle.
The Internal Security Command in Hama governorate said the competent authorities were continuing their investigations to uncover the circumstances of the incident, confirming that search and investigation operations were ongoing to pursue those involved.
In western Aleppo countryside (northern Syria), the town of Maarat al-Atareb witnessed a security alert and the deployment of temporary checkpoints following armed clashes between two families over old disputes. The clashes killed one person and wounded others, according to the Aleppo Security Correspondent.
The correspondent added that security forces sent reinforcements to the town to contain the clashes and control the situation, while the security deployment and the pursuit of those involved continued.
In Latakia (western Syria), the area around al-Azhari roundabout witnessed a shooting that targeted two young men riding a motorcycle after an argument with a car driver near the site, according to Enab Baladi’s correspondent.
He added that the incident began after the two young men carried out dangerous maneuvers near a car carrying a family, before the argument developed into gunfire. No confirmed information has been received so far about casualties.
Meanwhile, during the days of Eid al-Adha, the Ministry of Interior announced that it had raised the readiness of its personnel and deployed them in several areas.
In an official Eid greeting message, the ministry reassured citizens, stressing its efforts to maintain public calm and preserve security during the holiday period.
These measures coincided with the registration of separate security incidents in some governorates, and with security forces responding to intervene, break up clashes, and control the situation in locations that witnessed tension, according to the Interior Ministry.
Previous Incidents in Homs
On May 20, a woman was wounded after unidentified people threw four grenades among passersby in the Karm al-Zeitoun neighborhood of Homs city (central Syria), causing one of them to explode, while three other grenades did not detonate, according to local sources.
The sources told Enab Baladi that the incident followed earlier tension in the neighborhood over arguments and disputes among several young men, before events escalated into grenades being thrown in the street, with security patrols later arriving and investigations into the incident beginning.
The incident comes in the context of what is known as “mobile killing” in Homs city, where recent months have seen separate shootings and assaults in several neighborhoods. Some were carried out as rapid attacks inside residential areas, causing dozens of civilian casualties over short periods, amid continued security tension in some of the city’s neighborhoods.
