Syria’s Interior Ministry announced the arrest of those allegedly involved in the killing of a family in Manjila village, in the Latakia countryside of western Syria, following an investigation by specialized units into the circumstances of the crime.
The ministry said on Saturday, July 18, that Internal Security Forces in Latakia governorate began investigating immediately after receiving a report that a father, mother and their son had been killed and their daughter wounded. Investigators conducted a forensic examination of the crime scene and collected evidence, leading them to identify and arrest the suspects.
The ministry identified those arrested by the initials A.A., Kh.A., S.A. and A.B. It said the investigation indicated that they had planned the crime because of previous disputes with the head of the family.
According to their confessions, the suspects disabled surveillance cameras around the house before committing the crime. They then stole several items from the home before fleeing.
The ministry said the suspects had been referred to the relevant judicial authorities to complete the legal proceedings against them.
The crime, which took place in Manjila village in the Latakia countryside, caused widespread shock within the local community after members of the same family were killed. Residents called for the circumstances surrounding the incident to be uncovered and those responsible to be held accountable.
How Did the Crime Happen?
Three members of the same family were killed in Manjila village, in the al-Haffah countryside of Latakia governorate, on Wednesday, June 25.
The victims were Ghiath Yassin, his pregnant wife, Abeer Halimeh, and their 10-year-old son. Their other daughter, aged three, was seriously wounded.
The Syrian al-Ikhbariya reported that the crime took place inside the village under circumstances described as bloody. The victims were found inside a car near the family home, while residents gathered around the area amid widespread shock and grief following the incident.
Al-Ikhbariya said the victims were a man, his pregnant wife and their son. The wounded girl was taken to a hospital for treatment and admitted to the intensive care unit because of injuries described as serious.
Abdul Salam Haj Qasem, a relative of the victim, told Enab Baladi that, according to information circulating among family members, the incident followed previous disputes between the victim and other parties in the area. The disputes were linked to complaints concerning the theft of electrical cables and repeated friction in the village during the preceding period.
He added that the victim had previously filed formal complaints about those incidents. The disputes later developed into recurring tensions and altercations, including an assault that broke the victim’s hand, prompting him to turn to the courts and pursue the case through legal channels.
According to Haj Qasem’s account, the victim was later subjected to repeated pressure and threats intended to make him withdraw the complaint, but he continued pursuing it.
