The regime and Iran’s plans to change the demography of Homs provincehave been succeeded as the people of al-Waer neighborhood keep heading the northern Syria in weekly batches.
The opposition has not yet instituted any plans to accommodate these newly displaced persons especially as the thousands of families from Homs are a strain on the resources and infrastructure in the areas they have settled in.
Ammar Johmani met with the evacuees of al-Waer neighborhood in the city of al-Bab.
Al-Bab as other cities in Syria’s north, are cities Homs’ residents are becoming familiar with for the first time due to their forced migration. Al-Waer’s displaced residents face not only a new and unfamiliar city, but an unknown future as they struggle to deal with their displacement from one of the last revolutionary strongholds in Homs city.

Speaking a group of young men in al-Bab, they said “It has been two days since we arrived in the city of al-Bab. We were facing the unknown. We have found nothing for us but these already destroyed streets... There is no money, no place, and no work can be found in the city of al-Bab.”
They added, “We do not know when we will be given the authorization to leave the city of al-Bab which is destroyed to be given with. We are now in a war with the new life here, and perhaps carrying arms is easier than this battle, especially as we know no one in this city. We are confronting the unknown.”
Ammar Johmani’s reporter asked if they would consider joining one of the armed factions. The young men responded, “We will not repeat that experience… We carried weapons in Homs and they let us down.”

They added humorous, “We don’t want to let the displacement reach al-Bab… Homs is enough.”
The young men called on the coalition and the opposition in Syria to intervene to solve the problem of shelter for the newly arrived families, especially as there are so many women and children. Many of the newly arrived cannot afford the price of rent in al-Bab were monthly rent for an apartment reaches 100 US Dollars.
The people of al-Waer are dispersed across Syria without any assistance or support from humanitarian or relief organizations or the political opposition. This disaster continues and is growing as more displaced people arrive from the neighborhood to camps and cities in Syria’s north.
