The Turkish Authority has rejected many Syrian refugees' applications who seek the Turkish nationality over security reasons, without details about the criteria for evaluating the security status of Syrian residents in Turkey.
Mahmood Mihdi, Syrian teacher, who preferred to use a nickname, told Eqtsad that he had received a text message on his mobile to attend to the civil directorate in the state of Antep to meet an employee there, who told him that his application was rejected for security reasons and asked him to sign a document confirming he had been notified.
Mihdi explained that the employee did not give him details about the particular security reason or criteria to reject him, but he advised him to start a lawsuit in the primary court to object the decision.
The same happened to the shoes seller who talked on condition of anonymity but named himself as Ahmed Abo Omran. He was denied the Turkish Nationality for security reasons.
“I do not hav any relationship with Kurdish organisations of Syrian regime or the Islamic State, I do not have any previous criminal record, so which bases they relied on to declined my application?”, he wondered.
Out of 100 applications for Turkish nationality Eqtsad counted, 50% of them were rejected, while 45% are still waiting the outcomes, only 5% were told that they were accepted, but still, they have not received any confirmation text message on their mobiles to visit the civil directorate.
Many explanations were suggested to understand reasons behind the security objection, some said that a particular number is allowed for naturalisation, other suggested that wrong security information was provided for many applicants, however the real reasons and criteria are still unknown.
Turkish officials have earlier announced the plan for naturalising 20,000 Syrians after the poll on the new constitution which was authorised April 16
