Syrian regime forces have made limited withdrawal from al-Sukhna town east of central Homs city, due to a series of car bomb attacks carried out by ISIS after three days of taking control of the town, local reporter said Wednesday.
The radical group launched major offensive early Wednesday on regime forces in the town, starting with several car bombings left at least 5 forces killed, including M. General Ghassan Yahia Younis.
The regime and allied forces took Sukhna, the last major town in Homs province from Islamic State on Saturday, as the army advances toward militant strongholds in the east of the country.
The town of al-Sukhna lies some 50 km (30 miles) northeast of the ancient city of Palmyra, which was captured by regime forces in March.
Al-Sukhna is some 50 km from the administrative frontier of Deir al-Zor province, which is almost entirely under Islamic State control.
