Powerful Hayat Tahrir al-Sham jihadist group on Thursday arrested a prominent rebel fighter in northern Idlib province, commander said.
The former al-Qaeda group in Syria arrested Basem al-Hammoud, 34, who operates under the Northern Division banner. The 34-year-old TOW shooter gained fame for his talent in using the anti-tank missiles, Lieutenant Colonel Faris Bayoush told Ammar Johmani.
Rebels and local activists in Idlib province have expressed fears over the mounting abuses of Tahrir al-Sham.
Last month, formerly known as Nusra Front, expelled Ahrar al-Sham movement from its strongholds in Idlib. this move and more acts pushed opposition to promote a Turkish presence in Idlib to ease such violations.
