The Hague, SANA- The war crimes and genocide committed by “Israel” in Gaza constitute a blatant example of the colonial policies and double standards of the United States and some Western countries, Permanent Representative of Syria to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague, Milad Attia said.
Ambassador Attia’s remarks came in a speech during the 28th Session of the Conference of States Parties who had singed Chemical Weapons Convention.
The Syrian diplomat noted that the United States and some Western countries are involved in the barbaric and bloody Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and in the war of ethnic cleansing that has caused the death of some 15,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands.
“These countries have encouraged (Israel) to commit these crimes and offered it a cover in the United Nations and the Security Council, and also provided it with thousands of tons of ammunition and military equipment, in addition to providing financial support of more than 14 billion US dollars for their genocidal war, which reveals the extent of Western hypocrisy and their claims about protecting human rights and respecting the international law,” Attia said.
The diplomat expressed Syria’s support for the request presented by Palestine to the OPCW to investigate the use of internationally prohibited weapons by the Israeli occupation, including toxic substances such as chemical weapons, during its aggression against the Gaza Strip.
“The Israeli entity, which possesses all types of weapons of mass destruction and nuclear weapons, refuses to implement UN resolutions related to non-proliferation and uses lies as usual to cover up its crimes,” said Attia.
He assured that the universality of the Chemical Weapons Convention will not be achieved without forcing “Israel” to adhere to the Convention and the rest of the international agreements related to the Non-Proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
“The statements of the ministers of the Israeli occupation government about the possibility of attacking Gaza with a nuclear weapon confirm what (Israel) has always hidden which is the fact that it possesses this weapon outside of international control systems, and this constitutes a serious threat to the security and stability of the region, Attia added.
He denounced the attempts by the US and some Western countries to involve the OPCW in geopolitical and security issues of a regional and international nature, which led deviated the organization from the objectives for which it was created and turned it into a tool to serve geopolitical agendas.
“The best evidence of this is the attempt to attack Syria and the Russian Federation by making false and baseless accusations of using chemical weapons or preparing to use them,” he said.
In the conclusion of his speech, Ambassador Attia said that Syria has been subjected over the last 10 years to an unprecedented campaign of false accusations by Western countries, whose main objective is to exert more pressure and launch more acts of direct and indirect aggression against Syria.
