Damascus, SANA- Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Syrian Trust for Development, organized an exhibition of glassblowing to celebrate the inscription of “Traditional Glassblowing” on UNESCO List of Urgent Safeguarding of Human Heritage, which included various glassblowing products and traditional crafts associated with it, at Khan Asaad Basha in Old Damascus.
The celebration screened documentary film about the traditional glassblowing element, as it is a Syrian cultural element that enjoys the beauty of composition and the ancient craftsmanship.
The film is one of the documents submitted in the element’s nomination file to UNESCO.
The film also showed a speech by Member of Syria Trust Development Board of Trustees, Fares Kallas when the profession was inscribed at UNESCO.
“In late 2023, the sixth Syrian cultural element was inscribed on the UNESCO lists, and the second on the urgent preservation lists. This is an important event for the preservation of glassblowing which is now in danger of extinction, as the number of workshops for its manufacture was 14, only three workshops in Damascusb as terrorism destroyed all active workshops, specifically in Aleppo and Idleb,” Minister of Culture, Lubana Mshsweh said in a speech during the celebration.
