Syria’s delegation to Int’l Meeting in Astana Format meets Russian and Iranian delegations, agenda discussed

Astana, SANA- The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the 22nd International Meeting on Syria in the Astana Format, headed by Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Ayman Raad, met with the delegation of the Russian Federation headed by Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev.

The Syrian delegation also met the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Senior Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Asghar Khaji.

Talks during the two meetings touched on the agenda of the International Meeting, exchanged views and coordinated various issues related to the Astana track, and addressed joint efforts to combat terrorism.

The Syrian delegation shed light on the seriousness of the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, in addition to the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinians and the Lebanese, and the catastrophic effects of this aggression on the region.

In turn, the Russian and Iranian delegations praised the efforts made by the Syrian government, which were evident in receiving the arrivals from Lebanon, stressing the continued support for Syria in preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Syrian delegation met with UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, and during the meeting, issues related to his mandate were discussed.

In the same context, Asghar Khaji discussed with Lavrentiev the agenda of the Astana meeting.

Khaji referred to the repeated Israeli attacks against Syria, stressing the need to stop them and to hold the Zionist entity accountable for them at the international forums.

Lavrentiev, for his part, addressed the dangerous and sensitive situation the region is going through as a result of the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria, which affect the stability of the region.

In addition to the Syrian delegation, delegations from the guarantor states, (Russia, Turkey and Iran), are participating in the two-day meeting, in addition to delegates from the United Nations, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq as observers.
