The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for targeting the head of the Judicial Palace department in the town of Babila, south of Damascus, with an explosive device attached to his car that detonated in the Daf al-Shouk neighborhood.
The group said in a statement through its official channels on Wednesday, June 17, that its members detonated a sticky bomb attached to the vehicle of the head of the Judicial Palace department in Babila, causing “one of his legs to be amputated.”
A security source had reported that the car of Salah Ahmad al-Saleh, head of the Judicial Palace department in Babila, Damascus, was targeted with an explosive device in the Daf al-Shouk neighborhood, causing his injury, according to Al-Ikhbariya Syrian channel.
Syrian official authorities had not issued an immediate comment on the incident by the time this article was edited.
Internal Security Headquarters Targeted in Raqqa
The group’s claim of responsibility for targeting the head of the Judicial Palace department in Babila came one day after it announced responsibility for an attack on the Internal Security Command headquarters in Raqqa city (northeastern Syria), which left people dead and wounded.
The group said on Tuesday, June 16, that two of its members attacked the Internal Security Command headquarters west of Raqqa on Monday.
According to the group, the operation resulted in four deaths and at least two injuries.
The group described the operation as “a daring attack on a heavily fortified security square that includes central security headquarters of the American-run Syrian regime,” as it put it.
It added that the two fighters reached the main gate of the fortified headquarters, managed to enter, and clashed with its personnel at close range.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Raqqa city reported on Monday that an attack had targeted the Internal Security Command headquarters in the Intifada area west of the city.
The correspondent said the sound of an explosion was heard around the headquarters, followed by clashes in the area that houses the Internal Security Command center.
The Interior Ministry stated that security personnel confronted two suicide attackers in Raqqa, clashed with them, and managed to neutralize one, while the other detonated himself with an explosive vest after being surrounded.
The bombing killed one member of the Internal Security Forces and wounded three others, who were taken to hospitals for treatment.
The Islamic State group announces from time to time that it is responsible for attacks targeting Syrian security headquarters and personnel.
It adopts a hostile approach toward the Syrian government through its operations on the ground and media statements criticizing Damascus’ policy, accusing it of being subordinate to the West and moving away from the Islamic path.
Interior Ministry Operations Against the Group
The Syrian Interior Ministry announced the arrest of 235 members of the Islamic State group over three months.
The ministry added on June 8 that its operations represented the outcome of efforts by Syrian General Intelligence to pursue the group’s cells.
As part of the operations carried out, the Interior Ministry said the Counterterrorism Department succeeded in dismantling seven cells and thwarting seven operations.
The arrests, according to the months, included 80 members in March, 99 in April, and 56 in May, including 71 in Deir Ezzor and 35 in Aleppo.
The ministry did not mention details about the locations of the other arrests, noting that the nationalities of the detainees included 198 Syrians and 37 foreigners.
The dismantled cells, according to the Interior Ministry, were distributed across two operations in Damascus, two in Deir Ezzor, and one each in Aleppo, Hama, and Homs.
The Interior Ministry said it seized during its operations against the Islamic State group 25 weapons, six vehicles, 22 devices prepared for detonation, and 67 electronic devices.
