Documents issued by the Syrian Ministry of Finance were leaked showing that the Ministry issued decisions to confiscate the movable and immovable property of opposition figures and their families from various Syrian cities.
Recently, Vivan Roche, a media activist, published images of several leaked documents on her official Facebook page. The documents show the peremptory provisions issued by the regime to seize the movable and immovable property of several members of the opposition, their children and wives on the basis they were involved in the ‘terrorist’ acts witnessed in Syria.
Speaking to Ammar Johmani, Roche said, that the regime judiciary and Ministry of Finance continue in their confiscations- which have exceeded thousands of Syrian Pounds- of the property of anyone proven or unproven to oppose the al-Assad regime.
She added that these documents are a clear message from al-Assad to his opponents that there is no place for them in Syria which counters the daily media lies about al-Assad providing facilities for Syrians to return to Syria.
The lists include the names of some known opposition figures from the town of Dumayr in the eastern region of Qalamoun in the Damascus countryside including Firas al-Lahham, who served as the head of the local council for al-Dumayr city and Osama al-Khatib, who held the post of Council President and Vice-President previously.
In an exclusive interview with Ammar Johmani, engineer Osama al-Khatib said about the confiscation decision issued on his property that the regime is trying to intimidate everyone by its ability to intimidate political opposition figures so that no one will oppose al-Assad’s rule. To achieve its goal, the regime institutions intervene to confiscate opposition figures’ properties and livelihoods.
He added that the recent regime actions against opposition figures are unfair, especially because they target entire families. At the same time, he stressed that he expected the regime to take such a step from the moment he joined the Dumayr local council and indicated that the turn of events would not change his position and principles.
The regime has issued similar unjust decisions against the political opposition in the past. It has previously confiscated property belonging to government, media, military and artistic figures after they declared their support for the revolution against the regime including Faisal al-Qasim, Riyad Hijab the former Prime Minister, and artists Yara Sabri and Jamal Suleiman.
It must be noted that all the documents bear the official Ministry of Finance stamps and they are signed by Mamoun Hamdan, the current Minister of Finance in the regime government, and they were issued in June and July 2017.
