Geneva, SANA- Deputy Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh discussed with Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the prospects of cooperation between Syria and the UNHCR and means of strengthening it .
During the meeting held in the Swiss capital of Geneva on the sideline of the Global Refugee Forum 2023, the talks touched upon the joint efforts aimed at facilitating the dignified return of displaced Syrians and refugees to their homes, strengthening resilience, supporting the implementation of early recovery projects and providing the necessary funding for them.
Grandi expressed appreciation for the good relation between the Syrian government and UNHCR, and the ongoing dialogue between them that led to positive results, stressing UNHCR’s keenness to continue constructive work with Syria and the countries hosting refugees to ensure facilitating the return of Syrians to their homes and providing them with support.
The Deputy Minister Sabbagh, in turn, renewed the Syrian government’s commitment to working to facilitate the Syrians’ return, presenting the efforts Syria is making in this regard, including the procedures and facilities that are provided, which include amnesty decrees, local settlements, and smooth access to official documents, especially those related to civil status and property.
