Arab states condemned the latest Israeli incursions into Syrian territory, especially in Daraa and Quneitra, both in southern Syria.
An incursion in Daraa on Sunday, June 28, was accompanied by artillery shelling and violations described as a clear breach of international law and Syrian sovereignty.
Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi condemned the incursions carried out by Israeli forces inside Syrian territory and the shelling of Quneitra and Daraa.
He said the continued attacks by Israeli forces represent a dangerous escalation that would increase tension and instability in the region and undermine regional and international efforts aimed at peace.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the incursion into Quneitra and Daraa, and the accompanying artillery shelling that targeted several areas.
The ministry said the attack constitutes a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law and international humanitarian law. It called on the international community to assume its responsibilities, deter Israel, compel it to comply with international law, and hold it accountable for its crimes and repeated attacks.
Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates also condemned the continued Israeli attacks on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Ambassador Fuad al-Majali, pointed to the need to halt all repeated Israeli attacks and measures targeting Syria’s security and stability, which he said violate the United Nations Charter and Israel’s obligations under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
He also called on the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities, compel Israel to stop its provocative and unlawful attacks on Syria, and end its occupation of part of Syrian territory.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry expressed its “condemnation of the continued blatant violations by the Israeli occupation authorities in the region, the latest of which are the incursions into Syrian territory and the targeting of Quneitra and Daraa governorates with artillery shells.”
The kingdom expressed its complete rejection of Israeli forces’ actions, which it said spread fear among civilians and violate international laws and norms, according to the statement.
Abu Obeida, the military spokesperson for al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, saluted the Syrian people for mobilizing to confront Israeli forces in the village of Abdin.
Abu Obeida added that the Israeli aggression against Syria comes as an extension of the aggression against Palestine and Lebanon, noting that it is an attempt to implement the “Greater Israel” project and impose new realities at the expense of the countries and peoples of the region.
In his statement, he called for unity among the peoples of the Arab and Islamic nation to confront and thwart these developments.
About 60% of Abdin Residents Displaced
The Daraa Media Directorate said the town of Abdin in western Daraa countryside witnessed the displacement of about 60% of its residents after shelling targeted the town at the same time as Israeli forces withdrew from its outskirts.
The directorate added that as the situation stabilized on Monday morning, June 29, residents began returning to their homes, while fears persisted over the recurrence of incursions and the accompanying restrictions on movement and access to farmland.
Israeli forces also withdrew on Sunday evening, June 28, from the two newly established points, according to the directorate, amid artillery shelling that targeted Abdin and flare bombs launched over the town, while Israeli forces remain stationed at a military point near the town of Maariya.
An Israeli military patrol made up of four vehicles had entered Abdin village in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa countryside, adjacent to the occupied Syrian Golan, on the afternoon of Sunday, June 28.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa reported that members of the patrol opened fire randomly and set up military checkpoints in the area, prompting residents to gather.
United Nations Disengagement Observer Force troops tried to intervene, but the patrol did not respond before withdrawing to the nearby “Tal al-Mughr” site.
Israeli forces had seized “Tal al-Mughr,” a former military point of the Syrian regime, and established a headquarters there, linking it to “Tal al-Jazeera” by opening a military road after occupying it on the eve of the regime’s fall on December 8, 2024.
Another Israeli force also entered the village of Jamlah in western Daraa countryside, where it set up checkpoints and opened fire, cutting off the road connecting the towns of Jamlah and Abdin.
According to the correspondent, this movement marks the first public daytime incursion carried out by Israeli forces in the area, after their previous movements had been limited to periodic night incursions.
