An Israeli military patrol of four vehicles advanced on Sunday afternoon, June 28, into the village of Abidin in the Yarmouk Basin area of western rural Daraa (southern Syria), adjacent to the occupied Syrian Golan.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa reported that members of the patrol opened indiscriminate fire and set up military checkpoints in the area, prompting residents to gather.

United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, UNDOF, personnel attempted to intervene, but the patrol did not respond before withdrawing to the nearby Tal al-Maghar site.

Israeli forces had seized Tal al-Maghar, aformer Syrian regime military position, and established a base there, linking it to the al-Jazira barracks by opening a military road after occupying the area on the eve of the regime’s fall on December 8, 2024.

Another Israeli force also advanced into the village of Jamlah in western rural Daraa, where it set up checkpoints and opened fire, cutting the road between the towns of Jamlah and Abidin.

According to the correspondent, the move marked the first public daytime incursion by Israeli forces in the area, after previous movements had been limited to periodic night incursions.

Israeli Army Wounds Shepherd in Rural Daraa

On May 31, Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa reported that Ali Ahmad Ali al-Khodr was injured after being directly targeted by Israeli army fire while grazing livestock in the Wadi al-Ruqad area of western rural Daraa.

The shepherd is from the village of al-Basali in southern rural Quneitra (southern Syria), according to the correspondent.

The UN monitoring forces, which were present in the area, provided first aid to the wounded man for injuries to his thigh and arm, and he was transferred to Nawa Hospital in Daraa.

Israeli incursions continue daily in neighboring Quneitra, amid repeated arrests and inspection checkpoints, some of which have become permanent checkpoints.

The rights group Sijil Center for Human Rights documented a total of 205 violations committed by Israeli forces in Syria during May, a decline of nearly 19% from April, which saw 254 violations, and a drop of about 36% from March, which saw 321 incidents, the highest monthly rate recorded in 2026 so far.

The violations were concentrated mainly in Quneitra governorate, which recorded 163 violations, followed by Daraa governorate with 41 violations, while one violation was recorded in Damascus governorate, involving an aircraft overflight.
